Root Canal in Cranston, RI

Our endodontists at Ocean State Endodontics provide advanced root canal treatment and protection for teeth affected by infection or inflammation inside the pulp. A root canal may be recommended for damage caused by a deep cavity, a cracked tooth, dental injury, or a dental abscess. This type of tooth infection treatment helps remove the source of discomfort while preserving as much of the natural tooth as possible. Our providers take time to explain every recommendation and answer your questions with honesty and compassion. Schedule a consultation with one of our providers in Cranston or Middletown, RI to learn if a root canal is right for your smile.

A root canal treatment removes infection from the center of the tooth while preserving the healthy outer structure whenever possible. Inside every tooth is a small chamber that contains the pulp, which includes nerves, blood vessels, and other connective tissue. A deep cavity, a cracked tooth, or a dental abscess can allow bacteria to reach this area, leading to pain and infection. During root canal therapy, one of our skilled endodontists will gently numb the tooth before creating a small opening to access the infected pulp. The damaged tissue is removed, and the narrow canals inside the roots are carefully cleaned and disinfected. Once the area is free of infection, the canals are sealed with a biocompatible material to help protect the tooth from future bacteria. Depending on the condition of the tooth, a filling or dental crown may be recommended to restore normal strength and function. Treating the infection at its source helps relieve discomfort and promotes healthier teeth and gums. The treatment also preserves the natural tooth to help maintain proper chewing, keep nearby teeth in their normal position, and reduce the need for tooth replacement.

I saw Dr. Gaudette and his assistant Kate today for a root canal. Going into it I was nervous since I had never had this procedure before and historically I have felt pain with fillings in that same tooth multiple times so I was worried about pain level. I let Kate and Dr. Gaudette know my concerns and they reassured me that the numbing was going to be adequate and they explained the general procedure and they walked me through every step of the process throughout the procedure. They made sure I was comfortable and checked in frequently. The procedure itself was quick, and PAINLESS. Not an ounce of pain was felt. Thank you for providing excellent patient care and ensuring I had the best experience possible. I will absolutely return should I need any further endodontic care and will also be referring my friends and family if they need that care. From the front desk to Dr. Gaudette, an absolute 10/10 experience all the way through!

I was referred to OSE-Ocean State Endodontics on 1145 Reservoir Ave in Cranston,RI by my primary dental profesional. I wish it never happened, but when you are up to needing these kinds of services, you only hope you get to the right place. It was exactly what happened with me. The best possible way to describe my experience is by saying that when I was receiving my root canal work, I made considerable efforts to not to fall asleep. That comfortable I felt. They exercise a joint approach to the patient that starts with the front desk, continues with the supporting or assistance staff, and ends with the DMD that performs the treatment. I hate rudeness in people, but also fake politeness. However, I am moved by genuine and authentic people—those without a forced smile, or with enough maturity to remain silent rather than offend. Two assistants with whom I happened to interact reminded me, through the simplicity of their gestures, that human values still exist.

Wonderful care at Ocean State Endodontics. The team here is incredibly nice and the experience was quick and painless. I felt really relaxed in their space and enjoyed the dentist's personality. He hums while he works and it was really soothing and grounding for me. Additionally the fee was exactly what they had said it would be over the phone, no hidden costs. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a root canal. ♡

Is a root canal painful?

Modern root canal treatment is performed with local anesthesia and advanced techniques designed to keep patients comfortable throughout the procedure. Many people find that the discomfort leading up to treatment is greater than the procedure itself, and most return to normal activities soon afterward.

How do I know if I need a root canal?

Persistent tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, tenderness, or a darkened tooth may indicate damage inside the tooth. An endodontist will perform a thorough examination and take diagnostic images to determine if root canal therapy is the appropriate treatment.

How long does a root canal take, and how many visits will I need?

Many root canal procedures can be completed in a single appointment, while more complex cases may require two visits. The length of treatment depends on the location of the tooth, the number of canals, and the severity of the infection.

What is the recovery like after a root canal?

It is common to experience mild soreness for a few days as the area heals. Most patients can return to work or normal daily routines the next day while following the aftercare instructions provided by our endodontic team.

Will I need a crown after my root canal?

Many back teeth benefit from a dental crown because they experience greater chewing pressure after root canal therapy. Your endodontist will determine the most appropriate restoration based on the location and condition of your tooth.

Tooth pain should never be ignored. Infection inside a tooth will not heal on its own, and early treatment often helps preserve more of the natural tooth. Modern root canal treatment at Ocean State Endodontics is far more comfortable than many people expect, thanks to advanced technology, precise imaging, and specialized training. Our endodontists are dedicated to helping patients restore comfort and protect their smiles with personalized endodontic treatment.
